At the end of May 2024, tourist arrivals amounted to 5,937,939 tourists, up 15% compared to the end of May 2023. Likewise, over-night stays at classified accommodation establishments stood at 10,437,608, recording an increase of 8% compared to the same period of 2023. In this context, the average room occupancy rate reached 47% during the first five months of 2024, up 1 point.
| SENEGAL | FOREIGN TRADE | Widening of the trade deficit at the end of May 2024
According to the National Agency for Statistics and Demography (ANSD), Senegal's exports fell by 6.4% at the end of May 2024 to FCFA 1,414 Bn. Meanwhile, imports increased by 3.7% to stand at FCFA 2,874 Bn. In this context, the trade balance shows a deficit of FCFA -1,461 Bn at the end of May 2024 compared to FCFA -1,262 Bn a year earlier.
